The first two solar homes I did were built in the early 1980's and were designed by Walker Hagens, AIA. They were beautiful and efficient in ways that we are only just starting to appreciate. It was at this time I began my long association with the NC Solar Center. They provide a wealth of information and are very helpful and innovative. I was honored that my first solar home design; for Brenda McCall and Charles Lamm, was chosen by the NC Solar Center to be presented at the Southeast Conference on Solar Building.

Solar homes occupy a special place for me. The energy efficiency is something that is much needed, but what I really love is they are homes that look outward and are part of the rhythms of the day and the year.

I have built and designed a number of solar homes and additions over the years and just completed the Margaret LaRoe residence, June 12th, 2008.
