Restoration is an honoring of the past and a type of craftsmanship that we no longer have. Even attempts at historical replication rarely use the same tools, materials or methods when it comes to houses.

To be able to save such workmanship and materials is a great joy. The homeowners who appreciate and are willing to spend the money to save these buildings are to be commended. Without their love of these fine homes much would be lost. There is a warmth and feeling to these homes that cannot be duplicated, not to mention some the beautiful materials that are now scarce or no longer available.

In 1996 we received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Hillsborough, North Carolina Historic District Commission for work at Still House Lott, home of Wally and Leah Burt. In 2004 Kate Faherty of Hillsborough received this same award for her garage that I designed with her and John Shoneman.
